We’re celebrating the 100th year of the Birmingham Outer Circle - and what better way than an authentic piece of kit that would have been used by Drivers.
Original fare calculators were issued by WMPTE in 1975 and were designed to do away with the traditional faretables. The table for the 11 was vast and difficult to read while in service. The disc shows all the major fare stages/timing points and, by turning the front disc, the Driver could calculate the fare between two points. These were superseded by modern wayfarer ticket machines in the 1980s.
The original was made of a plastic material, but we’ve upgraded to 1mm thick metal for each disc meaning these are very durable. Diameter of bottom disc - 125mm. With the notch on the top dial, this makes the diameter 126.75mm
Move the top dial to the relevant fare stage you’re currently at then either read clockwise for the 11C or anti-clockwise for the 11A.
Made in Britain, printed and pressed and assembled by hand in Birmingham.
